Join us for our virtual class, Coffee Cupping 101! If you’d like to join the class without cupping on your own, you are completely welcome to do so. If you’d like to cup along with the class, please gather these supplies:

1. UMESHISO X TOMATO CUPPING NOTES FORM (download here)

2. THREE REGULAR KITCHEN SPOONS

  • If you don’t have this and need to purchase, we recommend: Umeshiso Cupper’s Kit ($15.30 – $21).

3. TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF COFFEE. At least 25 grams of each. You can choose whatever coffees you’d like, or you can cup the same coffees as Julien. Julien will be cupping two delicious coffees from Mother Tongue Coffee:

  • Bella Vista Women’s Project - Chiapas, Mexico - $22. This is a delicious washed coffee from Chiapas, Mexico that tastes like lemonade and sweet red plums! Rosalba Cifuentes Tovía is the owner of Mayan Harvest Coffee, an importing and exporting company located in Rosalba’s hometown of Bella Vista in Chiapas. Rosalba is committed to improving the lives of the coffee growing community she buys from, paying more than 20% of the local rate and buying coffee from women at a higher premium.
  • Bunum Wo Estate Peaberry - Wahgi Valley, Papua New Guinea – $22. This coffee is from the Bunum Wo Estate and is imported by Benchmark Coffee Traders. BCT is committed to social responsibility, providing free healthcare, housing and schooling to coffee farmers and pickers. They also provide gender education to schoolchildren and security for women to work on the estate. This coffee is medium-roasted and tastes like chocolate brownies and tamarindo.

4. FOUR SMALL CUPS OR MUGS. The cups should hold 5-7.5 ounces, and ideally  all four cups should have the same capacity. If you don’t have this and need to purchase, we recommend :

  • Loveramics Color Changing Cupping Bowls – $6.40 – $8 each
  • Espresso Parts Cupping Bowls – $6 each
  • Rhino Cupping Bowls – $4.95 each

5. THREE LARGER CUPS OR MUGS. They do not need to be the same size. Suggested capacity 12-16 ounces, but larger is fine.

6. ONE DIGITAL KITCHEN SCALE that can read grams. Scale should ideally have at least 0.10 resolution. If you don’t have this and need to purchase, we recommend:

  • Greater Goods Food Scale – $9.99
  • Acaia Pearl Scale – $150

7. ONE KETTLE. If you don’t have this and need to purchase, we recommend:

  • Ovente Electric Kettle – $15.99
  • Mr. Coffee Stovetop Kettle – $17.75
  • Brewista Artisan Electric Gooseneck Kettle – $169.99
  • Fellow Rebrew Corvo EKG Electric Kettle – $132

This is an optional list! If you’d rather join the class as a spectator only, that is completely okay. We look forward to sharing space at the cupping table with you.
